Non-toxic luminescent Zn-Cd-In-S / ZnS (core / shell) quantum dots coated with hydrophobic organic ligands. Readily soluble in hexane, heptane, toluene, chlo-roform, tetrahydrofuran, pyridine. Not soluble in water, alcohols, ethers. Emission peak width (FWHM) ca. 100 nm. Large Stokes shift (ca. 120 nm). Typical quan-tum yield 40-70%. Particle size: 4-5 nm.
