Product Overview

C-reactive protein (CRP) is a 115 kDa polypeptide belonging to the pentraxin family, consisting of noncovalently linked 23 kDa subunits forming a homopentameric structure. This acute-phase inflammatory protein is secreted by hepatic cells and plays a vital role in linking innate and adaptive immunity. It achieves this by activating the classical complement pathway and interacting with immune cells via Fcγ receptor binding.

In healthy adults, CRP levels are typically below 3 µg/mL. During inflammatory conditions, CRP levels can increase significantly, rising from approximately 1 µg/mL to over 500 µg/mL within 24–72 hours following severe tissue damage such as trauma or progressive cancer. Emerging research suggests that CRP levels may also serve as an indicator for individuals at higher risk of heart attacks.
